Green hydrogen hub announced in Kerala budget
During the state budget presentation, the Finance Minister of Kerala announced that his government would set up a "Green Hydrogen Hub". The state government is allocating Rs 200 crore for this. These hubs will be set up in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. The project will be implemented with the private partner India Hydrogen Alliance.
Green Hydrogen Hub
The plan will build green hydrogen plants that can produce 60 tonnes of hydrogen per day.
The plant will be set up with a 150 MW electrolyser and storage infrastructure.
The Kerala Hydrogen Hub project is considered a blueprint for India. This is the first time such a project has been launched in India. It has already started in other countries. International hydrogen hubs established in different parts of the world are called "Hydrogen Valley Project".
Hydrogen Valley Project
The Hydrogen Hub scheme is based on the Hydrogen Valley projects coming up in different parts of the country. A hydrogen valley is basically a geographical area where companies working on hydrogen production come together to build hydrogen plants. It has all the facilities for production, storage, distribution etc. of hydrogen. Hydrogen Valley projects have already started in the US, Europe, China, Japan and Australia.
Hydrogen produced through electrolysis of water is called green hydrogen.

Broadband definition in India
Indian consumers are constantly complaining that service providers are making false promises regarding internet speed. There was a constant struggle between consumers, regulators and service providers regarding this issue. To address this issue, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is making changes in the rules. Recently the definition of broadband has been changed.
According to the new definition, the download speed of the Internet should be at least 2 Mbps. It is far behind the developed countries. For example, in the US it is 25 Mbps. In Canada, it is 50 Mbps.
TRAI uses several parameters to monitor service providers. This includes connection or SIM card activation time, packet loss, uptime, user satisfaction, latency, etc. However, nine of these parameters are used in defining broadband.
TRAI should incorporate factors that define the broadband situation with better clarity. For example, it should include the nature of broadband and the proposed schemes.
In 2004, the download speed defined for a connection to be considered broadband was 256 Kbps. In 2013 it was 512 Kbps.
